Hey guys anyone moved recently to PI with an ILR settlement visa? SO I've moved to the UK since 2011 (when I married my British husband), been coming back here and forth 2 years before moving here as well and still can say that there's no place like home. Dont get me wrong, I love it here but I think it's time to make new adventures with my little family back at home. Anyways it's always been a dream of my husband and I for years and we're finally doing something about it this year. Just looking for advice what would happen to my ILR visa? Should I apply for citizenship before moving home? We've got a 7 month old so obviously we still want the best of both cultures so won't be burning the bridges fully...:D

Should we get both our 7 month old the dual citizenship now before moving or wait? The same thing with hubs, should we get the 13a here in the UK? HELP don't know where to start with all the paperwork.;<

    Thanks in Advance!:)

You need to apply for citizenship first or you would have to do the whole visa process again (if you’re out of the UK for a long time). To apply for citizenship you must not have been out the UK for more than 270 days (I think) within the 5 years and no more than 90 in the last year (again I think). It has also been deliberated here about also reaquiring Filipino citizenship but you may not have to do that.

Yes get your child dual. If you do it before they are 1 no need for additional criteria (late registration of birth).

Good luck and have a nice time. I love it around Cebu.

Terminal 1 Arrivals, playing hide-and-seek with someone in authority employed by Emirates to whom you can complain about damaged/missing baggage?

Ah thank you for that !
Waaa I thought so. Just so torned about getting the citizenship as we’re planning to sell everything here and buy a house in Cebu. I’m born and bred there so I know which is a good area to live etc. So that’s not a problem.

Last time I went here was I was asking help about my son (he’s 16 now) getting here in the UK but husband was really serious of moving back home. We’ve been going back n forth the past years and he loves it. So we really had a good talk about this as it is a big step. So instead my son is just coming here hopefully just to visit us this year with my mom and help us prepare with the transition. Would be a good vacation for them.

Think I have to get sort out my daughters dual citizenship then before moving.

If I were looking to buy a place in Cebu, I'd be looking at properties in the Nivel Hills above the Marco Polo - any lower and you get city smog but higher it's good. Avoid Citylights condo towers at all costs and that new condo development attached to the Marco Polo. Both are over-priced and cheap construction.

Yep that’s the place we’re looking actually! Have a property in Nivel Hills to look at and Busay as well. Hate traffic so much but I’m pretty much a city girl haha. I’ve got friends who are helping me out (works in real estate) with this’s it’s crazy loads are so overpriced especially area near the central like Ayala and so outdated. We want to be near good schools and stuff to do as we’re both very active and do loads of stuff together.

Yea makes sense to get sorted before you go back home and at least you have options if all doesn’t go as planned or whatever. Hats off to your hubby for embracing the place/culture. Wish we could give it a go but I’m either a sissy, stupid or sensible ;)

I’m looking at buying land up Northern Cebu for the kids/wife to have. I understand that foreigners buying land in their own right will soon be a possibility (2 years I’m guessing).

I know it’s a while off but we would appreciate feedback of how it goes once in Pinas.

Haha I’d say he’s crazy. I thought I was the crazy one . I’m bit scared it’s our lives we’re talking about here but hey ho I was scared to move in the UK and turned out good. We’re not getting younger so why wait till we retire. We made sure we have a plan B just in case. We both wanted to be in the City instead of living on an island for the kids. (that’s another dream) .

My husband will need to behave then as it’s under all my name .

Think everyone’s going north and south now definitely.

We’d love to but would take years haha! Also I really want our house to be a possible “business” too as in like instant hotel or air bnb style. So more money coming in.

A friend of mine just finished building her house and went up to 10 million and that’s just the 3 bedroom house!
Never liked condos anyways. I’d love to have my own private pool, garden overlooking the city.

10 mill pp for a 3 bed house ? does that include buying the land ? only you could build quite a house in the uk for that sort of money ( approx £150k ) if you already have the plot.

That was a condo. If you’re out the city you can buy a hectare (farming land) for real low prices.

Geoff and Anilou Thomas are couple of friends of ours who are property agents in Cebu - he's a former Royal Navy officer (submarines) who has lived in Cebu for over 10 years. Send me a PM if you want their contact details.

You won't get a large plot anywhere within the tri-city limits, land is just too expensive. However if you continue up the highway, past Tops and continue along that road towards Balamban, you should find a decent sized plot at a much more reasonable price. Construction should take no more than 9 months from breaking ground to topping out.

Agricultural Land, I could have bought 10 hectares for peanuts back 2003 when the pound was really strong against the peso. But I was afraid of the NPA. So I bought land near the beach, still cheap in those days :)

Yep balancing the price against location is the key. Try to be near a decent barangay road if possible within reach of water/leccy.
