How can I make it easier for my fiancee?

Hi all,

So, after receiving the amazing news of our fiance visa approval, I have just under two months to clean my house and prepare for her arrival

Does anyone have any tips on things which I should be ready for?

Anything which never crossed your mind which was a culture shock for her, which I can benefit from knowing now?

(or any funny stories you can share from your first few days together at home?)

deep cleaning time--lol. weve all done it. pay particular attention behind the cushions on your sofa. earings are your worst nightmare.

She is paranoid about my ex coming back for some reason. Just a little insecure I think, bless her. So ensuring every trace of her is gone is an absolute must!

you think you got probs--? when my--now--wife was my girlfriend...my--then-- wife--was still living with me ! try juggling that !

My own experience, Mica has been here a month now, is that it does not matter how much you clean, you will be lucky to be able to find your underpants after a week. Also, do not think you can hide anything. Everything will be found. It wasn't even my nurses outfit... I agree about cleansing of past relationships. I was given a list of what I can have, pictures of daughter and cats are fine, the ex, a big nope. We have our own family now though. This is half of them. Junjun and Kiki

Firstly Congrats to you both, I would have thought preparing her for the different climate , i know having taken my then Fiancee to South Korea last November, the colder weather is not easy for Filipinos to come to terms with..

By the time she arrives it will be cold, much much colder than she is used to, so firstly make sure your heating works and rooms are warmer than you would usually have them and get her a warm coat for when you meet her. Shopping for warm clothes will be one of the first things on your agenda. A new wardrobe full of clothes

My wife is perfectly happy with the UK climate. When she lived in The Philippines she was always complaining it was too hot.

My fiancee is constantly complaining of the Philippines' climate. She literally won't leave the house because it's oppressively and inhibitingly hot. But then, when it's 24 degrees in the morning, she says it's freezing!

My mother has constantly reminded me that bringing her to the UK in November/December might scare her off, but I can't change those circumstances.

But what I have taken from your kind suggestions is that I will buy her a coat and leave it in the car (I'll leave it in the short stay while I jet over to get her).

Don't forget to buy a rice cooker and of course a bag of rice! Hahaha

Check she uses a rice cooker. I bought one for when my wife arrived and it ended up in the first balik box unused.

yes--we use one all the time. my wife buys thai jasmine rice in big heavy sacks. personally--i prefer american easy cook rice cooked in a saucepan.

Having previously lived with a Thai girl, I do actually have a rice cooker
But, yes, good point, I will get a big bag in from the local Asian supermarket - thanks!

If I was you , I would buy a small bag first , to make sure it meets with her approval .

When my gf came for a visit , we tried several different rices , before we found ‘the one’ haha .

Yes new wardrobe required for winter visit . Big coat , ankle boots, hat and scarf , thick jumper , thermals .

Be prepared to have your kitchen taken over and cleaned constantly throughout the day .
