Hi All The wife and I are going to Retire to Phil, she cant stand the cold and damp weather here, cant say I am over the moon about it. Anyway we are in the process of selling up, we have a nice 50" Panasonic TV, Free view, free sat and internet. The wife says this will work fine in Phil, I am not so sure. any one sent a tv to Phil, Did it work?
Hi Rob It will not work as far as receiving terrestrial TV signals are concerned as UK and Philippines broadcast on different standards. I will work fine for streaming if it's a smart TV and of course if connected to a digital Set Top Box used to decode a satellite signal or cable TV. You have to ask yourself if it's worth the cost however of shipping. 50" Panasonic flat screen TV's are pretty cheap nowadays, even here in Fils. Shipping costs are more important than whether it works or not, I would sell in the UK and buy in the Phils, I was looking at Tele's in Abenson's and SM a few weeks back, the local brands are quite cheap and the major brands are not far off UK prices. 50 inch Sharp is 400 quid, more recent LG for about 700, the Samsung QLED things which really are the best are still more expensive than here coming in at over 2000. https://www.abenson.com/tv-entertainment/46-to-50-inch.html?p=1 The last tele I bought over there was a Sony 32" LCD about 5 years ago cost about 18,000 peso at the time or about 300 pounds back then, it is still going strong, I would be tempted by the Skyworth and TCL brands on price, they look great, they are locally assembled but I would wonder about long term durability.
I have just moved out to the Phils. I sold my 40" Samsung and 50" NEC Plasma. Too expensive to send to the Phils, where, as previously stated, TVs are not expensive. Multisystem TVs will work in the Phils, but most bought in UK are PAL only. Check the specs on yours. (Phils is NTSC, same as USA) . I also have a couple of (UK spec) Xboxes, which will work with any system TV, as they use the HDMI connections, so can be used to play UK DVDs, etc. I have a Panasonic DVD player too, bought in UK, but multisystem, so again, will play DVDs from anywhere, to local TV.
Agreed the larger UHD Smart TV's are still expensive here. I sent a Samsung 65" Curved Screen 4K here from Dubai, it was double the Dubai price. Well over £2,500.
Extra to the reply above, I have checked the TV on the web and it will work ok on NTSC analogue, and satellite in Phil, As we have a part container going it might as well go. Thanks for your replys.
The thing is that without a digital input i.e. digital cable or a digital satellite feed the image will look terrible the bigger the screen gets. Local cable is pretty poor on our 32" screen.
Hi Rob, even if your TV is multi standard, there is virtually no English TV channels broadcast in analogue terrestrially. What is there is very poor quality. If you have HDMI inputs and either an ethernet or wifi inputs, then you'll be fine.
