I often use my bicycle to get to work and many, many times I smell "weed" as I am moving along.

I can't help thinking how ridiculous our drug laws for cannabis are and how much revenue the government could make...

exactly. make all drugs avaiable on prescription for registered addicts. just enough for their daily needs. no need for illegal dealers. lock them up and throw away the key.

I doubt whether the hundreds of thousands of people who smoke weed would want to be classed as "registered addicts".
Cannabis is a recreational drug and cutting out the criminal elements who distribute this drug would be a great idea.

Alcohol and cigarettes are legal drugs and look how much that costs the BHS and you want to legalise more! Bad idea. What we need to do is stop the supply.

Trying to stop the supply of cannabis has been a complete waste of money and police time over the past 50 years.
We are talking about many £millions and I wouldn't want to guess how many hours spent by the police when they could use those hours to be more productive.

Based on that you are saying because we cannot correct a wrong we should make the wrong acceptable! No

Fifty years making marijuana illegal has not worked.
If you think that continually wasting money and resources is a good thing, then that is your prerogative.
Now hard drugs is another thing and the police should clamp down on heroin abuse instead of marijuana in my opinion.

    Other people think so too.

The wrong for me in this instance would be the legalising all drugs.
I am not sure how you can assume it' ok to waste money from the postings I have put on here!
I would never condone wasting money!
But as I said earlier just because we can't stop it we shouldn't then say ah ok then let' just accept it.
We as a nation have to find a cost effective answer for the future generations well being.

It is my belief that fifty years keeping marijuana illegal has not worked and continually wasting money and resources on this issue is a bad thing.

    Oh dear!
Where have I suggested that you did? You will note that @bigmac referred to legalising all drugs and I responded to that comment. Please point me to where I have said @aposhark wants to legalise all drugs I would be grateful.
I won't patronize you by asking you to be more accurate with your comments though!

I was in the middle of a reply and you latched on to it very quickly!
I don't think you and I will find any common ground on this issue, John, so perhaps it is best if we just agree to differ?

Yeah the American's tried that one for just over a decade in the 1920s and look where that got them.

It would seem crazy to legalize wacky baccy, when the Government is currently trying to wipe out tobacco smoking.

People puff on cigarettes a lot, I don't think they do this with wacky backy - if they did, they'd be comatose after eating everything in the fridge too. I saw some young people passing around cakes also, and I don't think they were Mr. Kiplings.
