Is there a special promo at the moment, or is there a glitch in their system.

The fees seem to have been swapped over. For transfer of £300 there is normally a fee of £9.90 for payment by Credit or Debit card, lesser fee amounts of about £1.90 for the other payment methods.

(I know there is still the cut of about about 3% on the exchange rate!)

Occasionally WU have extended periods where the rates are good to the Philippines but I've only noticed that when there has been a natural disaster like Yolanda, I think it stayed low for over a year for that one or one of the others.

Try all the combinations and see what changes.

Another thing is that the current WU website is incredibly buggy some days, I've had days when it would only run in IE of all things, for an international website the code and methodology (lots of async jquery I think) looks to be really poor.

Anywhere other than the Phils, it's 9.90 for up to £100, £19.90 over £100, £27 something over £200, hate them, hate them with a passion and only use them in very rare cases!

The WU website is worse than buggy.

Among other things, if you enter the wrong password on the "Verified by Visa" screen, or cancel the transaction, WU processes the payment anyway and charges your card.

Where did they find their system testers...

Where did they find the bleedin programmers, never mind the testers, like so many companies these days the end users are the first time the damn thing sees any testing.

And regards the bug you describe I'm not surprised, to be honest the old website from years ago before the attempt to introduce in place ajax style updates was perfectly serviceable there was zero reason to change it, it worked reliably and must have made them money, this new thing is so badly written that I am sure it puts people off using them.

@bigmac Can you tell us a bit more about this.

I use bank to bank transfer with Nationwide but it costs £20 a shot for £400. So yours sounds considerably cheaper.

    Thankyou.

I asked my bank about that and its WU who are liable if there is fraud by not requesting verification. It happens quite often on other sites evidently. Seems a pointless check now.

I have used AZIMO for a number of years , no problems above average rate, and fees are reasonable, I found to be much better than western union.

Yes , me also , I haven't used WU for a couple of years , I now use World Remit .
I get a daily exchange rate update , their fees are reasonable and I've found their communication really good .

They even managed to get me a refund on a payment that my gf 's bank had somehow "lost " .

Bigmac recommend KR and I have used it many times without a hitch. App avsolavai on Playstore and most likely iTunes.

Incidentally - noticed PayPal have just started to impose fees on inter currency transactions. £3.99. Greedy barstewards - I tbought they would be happy with their commission through the exchange rate offered.

I used western union for a long time then had a problem with a transaction. I asked them for a complete print out of all transactions made but I never got it not even after several emails and telephone calls. I've used World Remit ever since. I receive good service from them not sure how they compare to other sites though.

Hello, my name is Angel and currently am in the Philippines and soon planning to go back again to the UK for vacation, I worked in AXA and use to station in Metrobank here in Cavite. I would like to ask sir or mam your experience in Kabayan Remit is that ok? Ive heard so much about World Remit and will try to register there and send money from UK to Philippines when I get there next month, is the fee charge cheap and did you encounter any delays in getting remittances here? How does it work by the way? Where can i send money from the UK? In any remittance center or direct to any bank in the UK, pls advice sir / mam, thanks

Do you mean a bank account or a remit account?

You will not be able to open a UK bank account as a tourist, you might also find it difficult to meet the requirements for applying for a WorldRemit account in the UK, some Id documents are required, however I would expect that you could probably sign up with WorldRemit online from the Philippines, whether you could use it to send money from the UK to the Philippines would be another matter, these companies operate online and don't tend to have a physical store presence on UK streets or in malls unlike like Cebuana in the Philippines who are one of the outlets for remittances via WorldRemit in the Philippines.

HSBC and Barclays offer accounts to non-residents but I suspect the conditions for applications will be tough to meet.
