Open a Philippine bank account and obtain a Visa/MC Debit Card and use to withdraw funds in the UK.

Wouldn’t that be costly not only from your bank surcharge and there bank surcharge plus there diabolical rates.

I've used moneygram and WU of course. I send 6,000 to 10,000 pesos every so often to Nanay and it costs £2.99 with moneygram using a debit card. Thats a cash pick-up

On that amount - approximately £2,900 - I would remit bank to bank.

If its UK to ph- carry a combination of cash and card then charge majority to your credit card (just inform your bank ahead, plus credit card trans are guaranteed here in the uk. You can put it on hold, or contest it for anything). Carry a max of £100 converted to peso then send a portion via western union.

In the end, filipinos are very hospitable people. They will try and pay minor stuff themselves since you are a guest. Plus if your girlffriend is the real thing, she will not ask you to pay for anything extravagant (ie expensive meals expensive travels etc). My now husband didnt spend a penny in the two ocassions that he was in ph (before we got married). I pay for both of us if we are in ph (since he paid for everything when im in UK on holiday).

No, he wants to transfer cash FROM the Philippines! But you're not alone in 'misreading' his message :)

One thought occurs. A sum of this size might well trigger money-laundering checks that banks and other financial institutions are required to make which may delay the transaction.

I’m married our 1st anniversary this January, although we plan to apply for spouse visa this coming February. So I just wanted to find a place that does transaction from ph to uk. To transfer her money when she arrives.

Other option is if I bring the money in peso back with me to the uk.

Xoom stopped working in the UK about 2011, having just searched my email to check when it stopped in the UK I also note that PayPal bought them in 2015 interesting.

PayPal would work to send money from a Philippine PayPal account to a UK one, you could then withdraw to a local bank account but it would not be a cheap way to do it.

The fee is 1,100 peso for the amount you are talking about and they have bank deposit options at Western Union in the Philippines, it does not look like it works online though you need to visit an agent https://www.westernunion.com/PH/en/send-money-overseas.html

Ye if possible I would prefer it to be on a statement so I think the best way to do is bank transfer.. this is more for the spouse visa commitment.

    Think I’ll do bank transfer.

Having taken a closer look at the Philippine Xoom website it is still a service that is geared towards sending money from Western countries and not to Western countries.

Bank to bank would be best, have you got an account at a good Philippine bank I would approach them to find out what they would charge to send to the UK.

Just a note, you can't take 200,000 peso out of the Philippines in cash, if searched it would likely be seized, also you would get a truly lousy exchange rate anywhere in the UK converting Peso to pounds.

The limit on PHP cash that you can take out of the Phils is I think now 50,000 PHP Dave_E mentioned the exact amount the other day, it used to be only 10,000 PHP.
