An awful lot of guff has been issued regarding US President Trump and his threat to build a wall, and also regarding his recent ban on the issuance of visas to nationals of seven (predominantly Muslim) countries. People have marched on the streets, Madonna has confirmed that she has a ******, Russell Brand has confirmed that he is an utter ******, and Lily Allen has spoken from a completely different orifice entirely.

So I thought I might as well write my own piece of guff on Geo-Politics. But Geo-Politics is big and very confusing, so I thought it best if I bring it down to a level which we can all relate to. Our homes.

If your house was being frequented by Mexicans, wandering into the house and seeing what's in the fridge, watching your TV and raiding the medicine cabinet - and you hadn't invited them over - you might be tempted to take some precautions so as to prevent their entry.

You could install one of those fancy entryphone systems, but if they are climbing through the windows, it won't be much of a help. And so, you would protect the perimeter of your property with a big fence, (and fit window locks.)

Unless the Mexicans are particularly good and persistent tunnelers, you are then going to enjoy some well-earned peace and quiet, allowing for the fact that you will need to carry out sporadic checks for Mexican-sized holes in the garden. You might want a dog to patrol the yard.

Now, imagine that the Mexicans are only half the problem. Imagine for a minute that there is a gang of bikers who live an entirely different lifestyle and that, for whatever reason resent you and your chosen lifestyle. In fact they are so resentful of you that they have on occasion driven onto your property and smashed into the car on your driveway on purpose.

They frequently can be seen across the road, telling all and sundry that they wish you dead, and given the opportunity, will kill you. Your only hope for salvation is to become a biker yourself. But the entire black studded leather jacket, boots and grease thing doesn't appeal. You're happy to be as you are, and in fact, happy for them to stay as they are as long as their way of life doesn't affect yours too much.

It would be the sane thing to do to prevent them riding their noisy bikes onto your land - something you are perhaps understandably quite sensitive about because the damage to your car was quite costly to repair, and that they tend to ride their bikes though your flower beds and drop grease on the driveway.

And so, you take out an injunction banning motorcycles from your land. Of course this affects the local pizza delivery lad and the postman, but there's little more you can do, and if a little inconvenient to have to fetch your pizzas and call in at the post office to collect your mail, it's a small price to pay for the peaceful existence.

Your neighbours don't see it that way though. Brought up in the 1960's, when flowers weren't safe from being plucked and jammed into a gun barrel, they believe that it is always possible to have a chat with the Mexicans and ask them not to keep wandering into the house. They think that the biker gang are only smashing into your car because you upset them a few years ago.

They think that what you should do is allow them into your garden and into your house, and that when you do so and treat them as equals, no matter how many bikers there then ends up being in your garden and in your house, they will be happy and not insist that you join their gang.

They are clearly mad because when they outnumber you and your family, they are then the majority and so it would be them who make the decisions. There will be no flower beds left, and your car will be wrecked. And then they will make it a rule that you have to be a biker or leave.

Your neighbours take them cups of tea, to try to stay on their good side, but you can see from the upstairs window that they resent them just as much as you. Your neighbours appeal to you on their behalf to allow the bikers a little leeway. They think you were wrong to take out the injunction. They think what you have done discriminates against bikers, and yes, it does.

But it keeps you safe from harm.

Appreciate the allegory, but a couple of us here were real honest to god bikers back in the day :D so outside the allegory I, for example, got on well enough with the satanic devil worshiping leather clad tribe that sometimes smashed up the disco in Whiting Bay on a Saturday night :D even though I wasn't quite their kind of biker, still loved motorcycles though :)

Kilmarnock Tigers if I remember right round about 1976 or 77 :D

I can understand some tribal bikers, even when I don't agree with them I've always been able to start a dialogue with them ;) :) (still alive so something worked :D)

I once worked illegally in the US in 1975 in Hartford Connecticut on a farm picking corn for US$2.5 an hour, and recall 'Ato' a Mexican who walked across the border from Mexico to the US working there, nice guy. The problem though is the drug traffic coming across the border and criminality.

I have friends living in Orlando and Tennessee who voted for Trump in favor of the wall, and though you had a nice allegory that sounded smooth - rather like flower power they see this as a different scenario.

In the US there was an election and the people knew what they voted for, and those in favor of the wall won - like brexit - should we blame the democracy?

Do walls make countries safe or not? Has the Israeli war reduced the amount of suicide killings?

There are a few here that do not respect the U.S democracy system!
The founding fathers as you know, designed the electoral college to fairly represent every state in the country.. It was also designed to prevent populous states from dominating the whole country politically.
They were extremely smart men and knew exactly what they were doing..Obviously!

Read the rest of it Boots, democracy does not mean that you shut up for the next four years and the US opposition most certainly should not shut up!

So every immigrant is a drug smuggler?

How many Brits, Americans, Europeans are in jail worldwide through greed base avarice and smuggling, westerners have even less excuse than the poor sods from poor countries that get mugged into acting as mules!

Of course not!! The problem is that the Republicans out vote the democrats in both the senate and congress.
In theory,Trump should be able to get a lot done in the first 4 years..Unlike Obama!

In theory yes, but they have a well balanced system that should hopefully see us avoid the catastrophe of unbridled executive power.

And surely you know that most republicans are just desperately waiting to find a reason to remove this carbuncle!

What you will see over the next four years is a concerted attack on the first amendment that is what this guy is all about!

Their system is complex enough that even in minority they can prevent atrocious abuse of power.

    Of course not!!
But proper countries have borders and they should be allowed to have vetting procedures at the door..Good guys in..Sorry! Bad guys out!!
Any technology or physical barriers that border control require or request in order to do their jobs efficiently they should have.

Ive said it before but again,I think the travel ban was a mistake..There were many other ways he could have achieved similar with extreme vetting procedures.. That said,Trump as President had every right to issue that order and I`m 100% certain that the Supreme court will lift the TRO... In no way does that executive order contravene the first amendment BTW!!

Yes,but they have to use the constitution as a guide via the Judiciary.. They can`t just make stuff up (like the TRO) and imagine that it will stick in the supreme court...
Trump is about 5 steps ahead of them..Just watch.
