So 2 of the convicted in the Rochdale child sex scandal are to be striped of thier British citizenship and hopefully deported.

I'm glad you posted about this, I read the story earlier and thought they had been successful of not being stripped of their UK citizenship, I was moaning about it :)

Yeah, get them on the next plane to Pakistan.

Presumably they still have their Pakistani citizenship.

Would you be able to deport someone who only had British citizenship and had given up their revious citizenship, I wonder.

Good point, although I would think they would automatically default back to their original citizenship, I don't know.

What a great question, if I was PM and didn't have an answer I would put them on a plane , give them a parachute and boot them out over Pakistan.

Automatic re-acquisition of a renounced citizenship is not the norm, certainly not in the case of the Philippines where the re-acquisition must follow a strict process.

A person in the position of being stripped of a nationality would effectively be left stateless and I think in the case of the UK at least it would probably be against the law to strip a British citizen of British nationality if it would leave the person stateless.

The rules vary from country to country, until recently South Korea did not recognise dual nationals, they are now recognised if dual nationality were acquired through marriage but only after a certain date, I think after 2010 or maybe 2012.

It is a complex topic but in this sort of case I agree with stripping these people of British Citizenship.

It's actually all four defendants who face deportation - Shabir Ahmed, Adil Khan, Abdul Rauf and Abdul Aziz.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree. My personal opinion is that the deportation is a rather over-the-top action and has caused the British taxpayer unnecessary expense.

I would have preferred that only their genitalia be repatriated. ;)

Ah right I thought it was the 2 out on licence to be deported and then the other 2 later at the time of the release. I guess it makes the news doubly good so it's 4 seats and a parachute for the drop off over pakistan

Forget the parachute, silk is expensive. Charge them for the fuel though and given them each a bag of pork scratchings as their inflight meal.

Do you think that the EU and the Court of Human Rights could delay this?

I thought that's one reason we were throwing off the EU manacles, so that

at last we may freely eject such scum from our country.
